Europe’s first-ever underwater museum to open in Spain

Underwater museumGHOST like figures have been erected in Spain’s waters.

Accessible only to snorkellers and divers, Europe’s first underwater museum is opening in the waters off of Lanzarote.

Installation has begun at the Atlantic Museum, with sculptures by international artist Jason deCaires Taylor based on the seafloor.

DeCaires Taylor has supplied similar sculpture installations at underwater museums in the Bahamas, Mexico and the Antilles.

Underwater museum 2Submerged 12 to 15 metres, the human figures will form part of an artificial reef, acting as a breeding site for local species.
