TWISTING skyscrapers have gone viral thanks to a pioneering Spanish architect, a new study suggests.

Ever since the first ‘twister’, the Turning Torso in Malmo, Sweden, was completed by Santiago Calatrava in 2005, a further 27 have been built or are under construction.

These include the famous 2,000ft Shanghai Tower and the soon to be completed Diamond Tower, which will be Saudi Arabia’s second-tallest building.

The Chicago-based Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat claims the growing trend for Calatrava’s twisting towers is “creating a new generation of iconic buildings throughout the world”.
