UNEMPLOYMENT in Spain shot up by 27,858 people in September, the worst increase in that month since 2012.

Altogether, 3,410,182 Spaniards are registered as out of work, according to Ministry of Employment statistics, the lowest number in eight years.

In the Balearic Islands, the 42,415 people registered as unemployed represented a 12% drop on last September’s figure, the second largest fall in Spain.

Overall unemployment in Spain has dropped by 310,115 in the last year, with 292,792 people moving off the dole in 2017 alone.
