Police and paramedics also arrived on the scene, near the Laguna Beach urbanization, but could not save him.

He had been staying at a nearby hotel for a few days with his wife, who found that he had drifted 300 metres from where they were first sunbathing.

It comes after another man drowned on Sunday, at around 11am on Bajondillo beach in Torremolinos.

That victim was a 64-year-old man who was pronounced dead at the scene.
