Spain’s government will investigate soldiers caught drinking beer in public with guns at their feet

SPAIN’S Ministry of Defence will investigate a group of soldiers snapped drinking in a bar with guns next to them.

The troops were travelling from France to Ronda, when they were seen guzzling beer in a bar in Barcelona. 

Normal procedure would have been for them to leave their weapons inside the guarded vehicle while they took their break.

The photo, which went viral, shows a group of around twelve soldiers in military uniform, seated around bottles of beer with rifles near them.

Local politicians have criticised the soldiers. Gabriel Rufian from Catalan party Esquerra Republicana said he was “sure that the automatic rifles weigh less after the beer.”
