NEW COVID-19 case rates in Alicante Province have seen the biggest spike since September 24.

The latest figures released by the Valencian Health Ministry on Wednesday evening(October 14) declared 288 new infections over a 24-hour period.

The increase was fuelled by a significant number of new outbreaks, especially in the south of the region.

The latest numbers contrasted sharply with just 97 new cases being announced the previous day, which was the lowest daily figure since early August.

761 new cases were confirmed across the whole of the Valencian Community, with four deaths, including one in Alicante Province.

One of the largest single outbreaks recorded in the southern Costa Blanca area since the start of the pandemic was in Cox, with 24 cases caused by social contact.

Pilar de la Horadada reported eight cases and Orihuela seven, both also of social origin.

Elsewhere work-related outbreaks were declared in Alcoy(seven) and Torrevieja(four).
