COVID-19 cases and outbreaks continue to rise in Spain’s Costa Blanca

COVID-19 cases falling briskly in Costa Blanca and Valencia areas of Spain

NEW COVID-19 cases are continuing to climb in Alicante Province in contrast to lower figures at the start of the week.

The Thursday(October 15) update from the Valencian Health Ministry reported 296 new confirmed cases.

A week earlier the figure stood at 222.

777 new infections were confirmed across the whole of the Valencian Community, which is 71 more than the previous Thursday.

A significant number of outbreaks in Alicante Province were reported in city areas like Alicante and Elche.

Five outbreaks all of social origin have totalled up to 17 cases in Elche, with Alicante reporting two outbreaks of 11 cases also caused by socialising.

No other outbreaks were reported in Alicante Province.

The overriding hotspot in the Valencian Community is Valencia City, with 15 outbreaks adding up to 56 coronavirus cases in workplace and social situations.

Valencian President, Ximo Puig, said yesterday that targeted local measures would be introduced ‘within a few days’.
