BLACKEST DAY yet for COVID-19 deaths in Spain’s Valencian Community

Hospital admissions dip below '300' mark as COVID-19 cases continue falling in Costa Blanca and Valencia areas of Spain

92 people have died in just 24 hours in the highest single day COVID-19 death toll in the Valencian Community.

3,413 lives have now been lost during the pandemic in the region.

4,664 new COVID-19 infections have been reported tonight(January 12) by the Valencian health ministry.

That compares to 2,283 new cases yesterday, with the Monday total impacted by a reduction in test reporting from the weekend.

The record daily Community infection total was announced on Saturday with 6,240 cases.

Out of the 4,664 new infections declared today, 1,815 are in Valencia Province, with 1,163 in Alicante and 435 in Castellon.

Valencia Province continues to account for well over half the people hospitalised with the coronavirus in the Community

Out of 2,739 patients being treated for COVID-19, 1,595 are in Valencia(228 in ICUs); 913 in Alicante(137 in ICUs); and 231 in Castellon Province(23 in ICUs).

46 outbreaks were reported in the Valencian Community and the bulk are in Valencia Province.

The largest number comes from a 52 person outbreak in Picassent.

A dozen outbreaks have been declared in the Valencia City area totalling 78 cases, with just one of the outbreaks attributed to a non-socialising situation.

19 cases via three socially-caused outbreaks were reported in Benidorm.
