A SEVILLA park was closed on Friday due to a plague of rats with council workers carrying out an in-depth treatment to get rid of the vermin.
The rats have been reported in the Huerta del Parejil park for weeks with residents complaining on social media and also to Sevilla City Council.
Videos have circulated showing several rats climbing on the park benches and footage of large-size rodents.

The council had taken action a couple of times during the summer with poisoned bait holders placed down at the start of the season.
Workers on Friday were expected to identify rat burrows which were going to be treated.
Residents claim that some of the rats were in bushes that had not been pruned.
They took to the council app, ‘Sevilla, your city’ to make a variety of comments.
“It’s outrageous to be in the park with the kids and for the rats to roam freely. There are more rats than children,” according to a posting made on Monday.
Another person wrote: “We have been suffering from this problem for several years and it is getting worse. “
“We can’t go down to the park with the kids, do something at once!”
All of the complainants were concerned about the danger to children and some criticised the lack of ‘forceful action’ by the council.
“One day we will regret a misfortune if immediate action is not taken,” a contributor said.
The problems are not exclusive to the park with rat burrows spotted in flowerbeds on nearby Calle Carteros.
