Fancy some ping pong? Estepona is installing eight ‘vandal-resistant’ table tennis tables around the town

CHANNEL your inner Marty Supreme with a Costa del Sol town’s newest promotion of free sports with several outdoor ping pong tables.

Estepona city council has displayed its first five ping pong tables placed across the municipality.

In an effort to promote sport and physical exercise, the town hall plans to install eight durable tables in different locations.

The new facilities will span across neighbourhoods such as Primavera, Plaza de los Remedios, Blas Infante-Picasso, Guillermo Cabrera street, Cancelada, Solis, Plaza Juanito Valderrama, and outside the Padre Manuel Cultural Center.

The estimated project investment was €15,439.69.

Luis Gil, Estepona’s councilor of the Sports Department, has ensured that the Forte-branded table tennis gear is primed to the games’ regulations and easily accessible for people of all ages.

To maintain its quality and prevent damage from vandalism, the tables feature a 55-millimeter-thick playing surface with a thermoplasticized frame.

The city council aims to push for more free sports, claiming ‘sport and physical exercise are key to improving people’s quality of life.’

Gil explained that low-impact activities like table tennis help residents stay active without damaging joints, reduce stress, and improve coordination and cognitive health.

The effort follows several other outdoor fitness areas built in the last year, including a calisthenics zone at Parque Ferial y Deportivo and two paddle tennis courts in Nueva Atalaya, all free and accessible for residents.
