Empowering minds: Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital leads mental health and bullying prevention training at German school

PROFESSIONALS from Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital are providing training on mental health and the prevention of bullying to pupils at the German School, as part of the Stay Healthy programme run by the Quirónsalud Foundation

Staff from Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital took part in an activity organised with Year 7 and Year 8 pupils from the German School of Malaga as part of the Quirónsalud Foundation’s Stay Healthy programme, which aims to promote healthy habits and emotional wellbeing among young people.

Quirónsalud specialists deliver mental health and bullying prevention training at a German school.

Professionals from the Foundation and Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital from various departments, including psychologist Susana Brescia and Dr Isabel Blanco, Head of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, alongside managers from the centre’s Quality and Communications department, have delivered a series of sessions through workshops tailored to each group.

The worshops specifically addressed mental health in adolescence, focusing on an issue of particular relevance at this age: bullying.

During the workshops, key concepts were explored, such as identifying and managing emotions, the importance of not normalising emotional distress, the need to talk and ask for help, and the role of the environment (family, peers and professionals) as a support network.

Through activities and age-appropriate materials, the students were able to reflect on how they feel, how they relate to themselves and what resources they can use in times of difficulty.

Practical strategies for emotional regulation were also covered, such as breathing techniques, mindfulness, physical activity and emotional expression, with the aim of equipping teenagers with specific tools to cope with situations of stress, anxiety or interpersonal conflict, including bullying.

The initiative has generated considerable interest among the pupils, who have actively participated in the sessions and shown a high level of engagement in the proposed activities, reinforcing the need to create opportunities for dialogue on mental health within the educational setting.

Working together with families

As a new feature, the programme has introduced an online session aimed at parents, to encourage their participation and reinforce the role of the family environment as a key source of support for young people’s emotional wellbeing.

This initiative reinforces the comprehensive approach of the Stay Healthy programme, which views the prevention and management of emotional distress in young people and adolescents as a shared responsibility, in which the family environment plays an essential role as a source of support, listening and guidance.

Through initiatives such as this, Quirónsalud Marbella Hospital and the Quirónsalud Foundation reaffirm their commitment to promoting mental health from an early age, preventing bullying and actively collaborating with schools and families to contribute to the emotional well-being of children and adolescents.
