OFFICIALS are on the hunt for a trio who beat up a bike robber after a video of the assault went viral online.
A bike bandit was stopped by a group of spectators who ended up attacking him, and now authorities want to track them down.
The public disturbance occurred when a 24-year-old Moroccan man was filmed attempting to take a motorcycle from its owner in the middle of the day.
The incident took place last Monday at a traffic light between Conde de Vallellano Avenue and Villajoyosa Avenue in Alicante.
While the initial offense was documented in the video from outside someone’s window, it was the following events that caused the footage to gain traction on social media.
Shared here from X, the clip shows the owner of the bike getting shoved off by the suspect, who then mounts the motorcycle himself.
Then another person comes into view, joining to help the bike’s owner in trying to get the thief off the 2-wheeler.
After the suspect is physically removed from the bike, he takes off running, only to be chased down by a new citizen who has entered the scene.
This person kicks at the suspect’s ankles, causing him to trip and fall onto the side of the road.
What happens next is a combination of three people – the person who kicked the suspect, plus another man and woman – who kick and throw punches at the man while he is lying on the floor.
At one point the man who kicked the attempted robber is sat on top of him, throwing punches to his head and blocking him from moving.
The first bystander who came in to help the bike owner comes over to where the violence is taking place and holds his phone up to the suspect’s face.
This person then pulls the suspect out of the road and sits with him until authorities arrive at the scene.
Police are now trying to locate the three unidentified people who became involved in the incident through violence.
The identity of the person who filmed the assault is also in question, to report all details to the duty judge in Alicante.
After his arrest, the suspect refused to be taken to a medical center.
It’s been alleged that the defendant resisted the arrest and injured one of the officers who arrived at the crime scene.
One report claims he attempted to bite two officers when he was brought in for processing at the police station.
A debate is taking place online with people torn between thinking the trio committed an act of battery, while others claim they did the right thing as citizens helping to prevent a successful robbery.
