A TRIO of cops from Canada have been accused of sexual assault against a sex worker while on vacation in Catalunya.
Spanish authorities apprehended three off-duty officers from Canada who were alleged to have cause illicit harm to a sex worker.
The three vacationers were said to be riding in a taxi with a sex worker when one of the men began to touch her inappropriately.
The victim said she tried to resist but received a blow to the face when one of the other men punched her.
The woman has announced she needed medical treatment for a cut eyebrow, and has filed a complaint with the Mossos d’Esquadra for both sexual assault resulting in injuries.
Two of the cops were taken in by Spanish authorities on the same day, while the third was later caught and arrested two days later in Palma de Mallorca.
Since the supposed sexual assault occurred, one of the police officers was able to return to Canada. He has been suspended but with pay.
‘The allegations are serious,’ said Toronto police spokeswoman Stephanie Sayer.
However, no other comments have been provided at this time, with the Toronto Police Association pointing out that the charges took place during an off-duty incident.
The incident occurred on May 13 in the Ciutat Vella district of Barcelona.
The duo who have yet to return to Canada are also expected to be suspended with pay on their arrival home.
In Spain, charges for sexual assault can range in penalties from 1 – 15 years in prison, depending on the circumstances and any aggravating factors.
