SPAIN is set for a stark weather split this week, with Andalucia facing intense heat while cooler polar air brings a noticeable temperature drop across northern regions.
Temperatures in southern Spain are expected to climb steadily over the coming days, with parts of Andalucia forecast to reach 38C as warm air from North Africa continues to dominate the south.
The hottest conditions are likely to be recorded in the Guadalquivir Valley, west of Cordoba, where prolonged sunshine and light winds will combine to push temperatures well above seasonal averages.

In contrast, a polar air mass moving southwards from northern Europe is forecast to interrupt the early summer pattern across much of northern Spain between Tuesday and Thursday.
Regions along the Cantabrian coast and areas close to the Pyrenees are expected to experience cooler conditions, with temperatures falling by several degrees compared with recent days.
Temperatures are set to fall by as much as 10 to 12C in some areas, with cities including Bilbao, Santander and Oviedo hovering around or below 20C.
The cooler air may also bring increased cloud cover and the possibility of scattered showers in some northern communities, although significant rainfall is not expected.
Forecasters expect the heat to remain firmly established across the south despite the brief northern cool-down.
