POLICE have seized 16 tonnes of counterfeit World Cup football shirts worth €2 million, with the fake kits destined for sale in tourist hotspots including Malaga, Madrid and Barcelona.
Spain’s Policia Nacional, working alongside INTERPOL, EUROPOL and OLAF (the European Anti-Fraud Office) have seized more than 66,000 counterfeit World Cup football shirts in a series of raids across the country.
Police searched over 15 locations across Spain, including in Madrid, Barcelona, Elche, Denia and Malaga where warehouses, street markets, homes and storage facilities were raided.

So far, 95 people have been arrested and face charges relating to the sale and distribution of counterfeit goods.
The counterfeit shirts, valued at an estimated €2 million, were destined for street markets in tourist hotspots and online retail platforms.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the Policia Nacional expects further arrests as fake shirts continue to flood into the country as the World Cup progresses.
