A TURKISH fugitive wanted for an attempted drive-by assassination on an electric scooter in Germany has been arrested in Ronda.
Policia Nacional officers intercepted the 29-year-old suspect after spotting his car driving the wrong way down a street near the Andalucian town’s bus station.
A routine identity check revealed he was the subject of a European Arrest Warrant issued by German authorities, who had flagged him as ‘highly dangerous’ and potentially armed.
The man is accused of carrying out a hit outside a cafe on the Hauptstrasse in Weil am Rhein, a German town sitting directly on the Swiss border near Basel.
According to German police, the suspect drove an e-scooter to the venue at around 9.30pm on May 19 while carrying an armed accomplice as a passenger.
The passenger opened fire on a 44-year-old man sitting outside, striking him in the shoulder.
The driver then pulled out a second handgun to join the attack, but lost control of the two-wheeler and fled the scene with his accomplice.
The victim suffered severe injuries and had to be airlifted to a specialist clinic by a rescue helicopter, where emergency surgery saved his life.
The shooting triggered a major manhunt involving German federal police and customs officers, but the gunmen managed to slip across the border.
Following his arrest in Malaga province, the 29-year-old was transferred to Madrid and brought before Spain’s Audiencia Nacional court.
Extradition proceedings were completed swiftly and the suspect has already been handed over to German custody, where he faces a potential life sentence if convicted.
