Molino del Santo scoops new awards
A SMALL rural hotel near Ronda has been voted the world’s ‘Best Bargain’ hotel.
Hotel Molino del Santo, in Benaojan, has also been voted ‘Best Hidden Gem in Europe’ by the millions of customers who use the Trip Advisor website each year.
Now in its seventh year, the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice awards 2009 honours the world’s best hotels, earning their distinction from those who know them best – real travellers.
“Our travellers always appreciate great values, and 2009 is certainly no exception.” said Michele Perry, vice president of Trip Advisor.
“The awards highlight more bargain properties than ever before and millions of real travellers worldwide have helped identify these outstanding hotels, recognized for their exceptional accommodation, service and value.”
Hotel Molino del Santo owner Andy Chapell said: “These are amazing accolades for us and our brilliant staff. We don’t know how many hotels are listed on Trip Advisor but to be recognised in one category as the best in the world is excellent.
“We are so grateful to our guests for their fantastic support”.

Well done Santo…. I stayed there many years ago and thought it one of the nicest in Spain… a great team… friendly, well run and with a superb restaurant.
The Molino is my favorite hotel bar none – even the Waldorf in New York. We have stayed there numerous times. Each year we looked forward to our return – Room Four. My wife loves room service breakfast. Staff are terrific, food is good, gardens beautiful, pool wettest on the planet. And you don’t require a car because the railway station is only two/three minutes drive from the hotel and has connections from all points in Europe – call and someone will collect you. In fact we liked Benaojan so much we bought a house there as I couldn’t convience my wife it was better buying a timeshare from Andy. Well, he liked the idea at least.
What you must not do is not go for walks and also not enjoy the near by El Stop – Anita and Pepe – El Cantina – Angle and Rosie – and El Muelle – Gina and her husband who cooks and also runs the annual two day marathon event.
This is the most wonderful hotel for peace, quiet and a period of reflection. Oh, I was the first person to read the copyof War and Peace on the hotel book shelves. Did it in three days. That is how peaceful it is.
If you require the outside world both the hotel and El Stop have Wi Fi.
The Molino is just wonderful. I can not recommend it highly enough.
I’m reading this in Mozambique – oh, how I wish I could find a ‘MOLINO DEL SANTO’ in this part of Africa! (Or anywhere). I have to endorse the earlier comments. The Molino, at Benaojan, is delightful: Location, management, food, staff and accomodation EXCEPTIONAL.
