Olive Press Round-Up: The biggest stories in Spain

From The Digital Editor
Walter Finch

Dear Olive Press readers,

We are back with another round-up of the biggest stories in Spain this week – and there’s been some doozies.

We kick off with our exclusive report on one British family’s fight for justice for their son who died in suspicious circumstances in Mojacar, Almeria. The Guardia Civil told the family that Brett Dryden died of a blood clot, but we can reveal that a sobbing detective actually tipped them off that Brett ‘had more injuries on his body than they’re telling you.’

A SOBBING female detective tipped off the parents of a British expat who had died under suspicious circumstances to look at their son’s body with their own eyes before cremating…

Meanwhile, more victims and witnesses from the shocking bar explosion in Mar Menor two weeks ago are starting to come forward. They told us about the horror, the blood, the glass – ‘like a terror attack’.

Spain broke its all-time temperature record for June when El Granado en Huelva registered 46C last Saturday. But is there more than meets the eye? One meteorologist cast doubt on the reading.

One pensioner couple told the Olive Press of their Kafka-esque struggles and suffering in trying to get permission from the town hall in Alhaurin de la Torre (Malaga) to install solar panels on their roof. Red tape and charges meant it would cost them more than €20,000 to get the right licence!

The Swedish mafia trial implicating the mayor of Marbella’s step-son rumbles on in Madrid – with Mayor Angeles Muñoz’s biological son facing the prospect of his fancy San Pedro apartment being seized.

Marbella was also home to a shocking high speed collision between a Policia Nacional patrol car in the middle of crowded highstreet and an alleged Rolex thief fleeing on a motorbike.

And Spain’s anti-tourism-cum-housing-crisis keeps on getting worse. It’s now been revealed that over 30% of homes in tourist hotspots are now short-term lets.

That’s all from me this week, have a great weekend. Best,
Walt
