GOOGLE is paying tribute to a philosopher from Ronda to mark the 175th anniversary of his birth.
Considered one of Spain’s greatest intellects, Francisco Giner de los Rios is currently featured on Google’s home page.
Giner is largely remembered for openly criticising the government of the day for their attempts to stifle academic freedom.
Educated in Barcelona and Granada, Giner is also considered one of the frontrunners for democratic law making in Spain.
Giner’s controversial comments about government policy eventually led to him losing his job at the University of Madrid.
