POLICE have arrested a man over a double knife attack in the Ryanair check-in area of a Spanish airport.

One woman, 47, was stabbed in the ear, while another, 24, received a wound to the hand.

Authorities detained a 30-year-old Spanish man for the brutal attack, and are now investigating if he was related to the younger of the two victims.

The incident took place at Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suarez Airport, after the man began aggressively arguing with the women.

He then brandished a knife, as the younger of the two women then began to defend the older woman.

A police officer took out his gun, and with a flight attendant managed to diffuse the situation.

The events occurred 5:45 on Tuesday in Terminal 1 of the airport.
