Flood Devastated Area Of Spain S Costa Blanca In 2019 Sends 4 Million Bill To River Authority

ALMORADI council has demanded €4 million of compensation for property damage caused by last September’s record-breaking floods.

The Vega Baja area council blames the local destruction on the body that looks after the Segura river and the surrounding area.

The authority has sent a detailed and damning report to the Segura Hydrographic Confederation(CHS), compiled by an independent civil engineer.

He concluded that ‘a lack of river maintenance and deterioration of a flood prevention wall’ were responsible for the damage suffered in Almoradi, which included the centre of the town being engulfed in water.

The council said that it warned the CHS about the issues in 2017 and nothing was done to fix the problems.

A detailed breakdown of the flood damage is listed in the report which ranges from municipal buildings and roads through to sewers and the local electricity supply.
