LISTED: Andalucia kicks-off the summer with all-time record for number of blue flags

Spain’s Andalucia achieves all-time record for number of blue flags awarded this year, 2023

THE official ceremony for the presentation of the prestigious Blue Flags in Andalucia was held yesterday, Wednesday June 21, in Islantilla, a hidden gem on the Andalucian coast.

The iconic ‘Blue Flag’ is a highly regarded international eco-label awarded to beaches and marinas that meet specific criteria related to environmental management, water quality, safety, and services.

Receiving a Blue Flag is a mark of distinction and a testament to the commitment of the local community in complying with environmental legislation and improving beach quality in preserving and protecting the natural wonders of their area, and this year 148 blue flags have been awarded in Andalucia, the region’s highest number to date.

By provinces, Almeria has obtained 33 distinctions (32 beaches and one port), Cadiz 37 (31 beaches and six ports); Cordoba (one); Granada 13 (12 beaches and one port); Huelva 17 (12 beaches and five ports), and Malaga 47 (39 beaches, six ports and two sustainable vessels).
