The call was made by a female friend of the victim who she spotted from the top of a cliff after his fall into a ‘hard to access’ area.

A Civil Protection team and an ambulance were first to arrive at the scene.

They were followed by the Guardia Civil, the Ibiza Fire Brigade, and Sant Joan Policia Local officers.

A firefighter descended to where the man had fallen and subsequently confirmed that he had died.

The rough terrain made it difficult to recover the body and a helicopter was brought in to assist.

Authorities said that the operation was concluded at around 8.20pm.
