A TOWN near Granada was cast back in time this weekend as locals reenacted a landmark rebellion against Napoleon’s army in the 19th century.
The event in Peligros saw children and professional actors perform the uprising in street plays across the town, while shopkeepers in historical costumes set up a special market along one of the main roads.
Known as the ‘Fiesta de las Mozuelas,’ the festival is named after a group of young women who, according to legend, bravely retrieved a holy chalice stolen by occupying French troops in 1812.
Peligros’ councillor for culture, Cristina Lopez Nuñez, said: “It really feels like you’re in 1812.
“This tradition really brings the town to life – and it is such a pleasure to see children perform.”
