Teenager, 16, arrested in Andalucian beach town for massive hack leaking sensitive data of Spain's top security chiefs in Spain's Barcelona

A TEENAGER hacker who posted personal details of senior police and intelligence officials on the internet has been arrested in the Granada area.

The 16-year-old boy was detained by the Policia Nacional in Motril on May 26.

The Interior Ministry said he allegedly leaked data linked to staff of ‘various sensitive State institutions’.

The young hacker accessed details of senior officials from Incibe (National Cybersecurity Institute) and the National Security Council, as well as Policia Nacional and Guardia Civil commanders.

He also obtained information about members of the State Attorney General’s Office, the Ministry of Finance and the Tax Agency.

Policia Nacional officers searched the boy’s family home and removed ‘various computer and technological material’.

It is now being analysed by tech experts to work out the scope of his hacking and how he achieved it.

Sources told the El Pais newspaper that the teen was surprised by the police raid.

He reportedly said: “I was convinced that I had left no trace.”

Initial indications are that the boy was not after money via blackmail but just wanted to make a name for himself in online chatrooms frequented by hackers.

The probe has revealed that he maintained contact with other hackers.

The Policia Nacional investigation started in late February when dozens of staff and senior officials of agencies involving state security found that their personal details had been hacked.

The youngster accessed private information via ID numbers and passwords.

He signed himself as Police-ESP-Doxed.

The Interior Ministry said the hack ‘generated an immediate risk to the security and integrity of those affected and of the institutions themselves’.

An urgent probe was then launched to find the perpetrator.

When he was arrested last week, he was apparently in possession of confidential details of thousands of people.

Authorities are analysing all of the seized material to see if anybody else was involved and are also dismantling a chatroom used by him within an instant messaging app.
