A 16-YEAR-OLD girl was rushed to hospital after having her drink spiked and suffering a suspected sexual abuse during the San Juan celebrations in Malaga.
The victim told officers several boys led her to a secluded area during the beach bonfires and attempted to force themselves on her on Tuesday night.
According to Malaga’s Regional Hospital staff, she arrived in a state of ‘panic’ and disorientation around 5am on Wednesday morning following the alleged assault.
Police confirmed they have launched an investigation into the matter and that the girl has since been ‘entrusted to her parents’ care.’
Last year, The Olive Press relaunched its ‘Smash the Spiking’ campaign following an alarming rise in the practice across Spain.
Danish firm Komfid backed the initiative, launching a raft of anti-spiking products including cup tops and special nail varnishes.
The company targets venues rather than consumers, selling its products in bulk to clubs and bars.
The owners have a responsibility to keep people safe,” explained founder Marcus Christensen during on a trip to Andalucia in April.
“Spiking is a serious and often overlooked issue and I’m proud to support the Olive Press campaign which is helping to bring greater attention to the risks and promote safer spaces in Spain,” added expat Mila Van der Linden who is leading the Spanish side of the project.
