Protected nature reserve in Spain’s Andalucia set on fire for its own good

nature fire

A NATURE reserve has been set on fire in a bid to regenerate growth.

The Laguna de Fuente de Pierda nature reserve in Andalucia was torched today by the Equipo Regional de Quemas Prescritas.

It is the first time a controlled burning process has been used to help regenerate ecosystems in a protected area.

It is carried out in colder weather and is believed to reduce the risk of more serious fires in summer temperatures.
