Head of party in Vícar busted unloading a thousand kilos of banned substance

THE head of the Partido Popular in Vícar (Almería) has resigned after being caught red-handed with more than 1,000 kilograms of a banned pesticide.

Officers from the environment department of the Guardia Civil detained José Rodríguez as he was unloading 1,400 kilos of dichlorovs – a powerful compound used to exterminate insects – from a lorry to his house on May 8.

The use of pesticide dichlorovs, which is fatal to humans if ingested in high doses, is prohibited in Spain.

Civil guards also confiscated other “volatile and highly toxic” materials.

Rodríguez, who was charged with public health offences, was later released on bail by judges in El Ejido.
