A ‘FREAK’ wave has been named ‘the single biggest wave ever recorded in Spanish waters’.

According to new data, the giant wave – measuring 27.8m (91.1 feet) from crest to trough – was recorded off the coast of Galicia’s Cape Vilan early this year.

The previous record-holder was a 26.1m monster wave near the city of Santander during 2009’s Cyclone Klaus.

  1. I think they have a bloke out there on a surf board & he carries his mothers measuring tape in his hands. On the other hand it’s probably all very Hi Tech these days & measurements can be made from photos especially from a fixed camera position
