Dangerous stretch of Estepona to Benahavis road to get safety boost with €1.3m lighting and pavement upgrade

A DANGEROUS stretch of the Benahavis road near Estepona is getting a major €1.3 million safety overhaul.

The works affect a 2.3-kilometre section of the A7175 between the Mar y Monte and La Alqueria roundabouts, which links the A7 with residential areas towards Benahavis.

The road has long been criticised by residents for poor pedestrian safety, lack of pavements, and inadequate lighting.

With a budget exceeding €1.3 million, the project is focused on transforming one of the Costa del Sol’s more hazardous road sections into a safer route for both motorists and pedestrians.

A 26-year-old woman died after a traffic accident on this stretch of the road in September 2025, highlighting the need for upgrades and traffic-calming measures.

The new pavement running along the A7175 is now close to completion, after which the works will move on to installing upgraded street lighting, improving landscaping, and planting new trees beside the road.

Estepona’s city council says the works are 75% complete.
