The Ultima Hora newspaper reported that the robber had knowledge of the unnamed hotel’s security cameras and whether they were working or not.

The man also monitored the movements of potential targets to ensure the coast was clear to execute a theft.

His haul included a Rolex watch valued at €30,000 along with various jewels.

The employee took a total of €2,525 in cash and sold off some of the stolen jewels in a gold pawn shop.

He was bailed after appeared in court in Saturday on ten counts of theft as well as breaking and entering at the unnamed hotel.

The robbery spree started on June 25 when a French hotel guest reported that €85 had been taken from her bag as well as a pocket video camera worth €499.

She told authorities there was no sign of any forced entry.

On July 14, a Polish tourist went out for breakfast and when she returned she found that she was missing €250 euros plus 100 Polish zloty.

On the same day, the British tourist reported the theft of her jewellery, while a French guest had the contents of a fanny pack taken which was hidden in a room cupboard.

The items seize gold earrings worth €400, two wedding rings valued at €1,000 each plus €500 in cash.

The victim list continued to grow, as the next day a Danish guest was robbed of two rings, a chain and a necklace- all made of gold.

On July 17, a French woman went out to dinner at the hotel’s restaurant and returned to her room to find €200 euros missing from a bag in her bedside table.

Cash was stolen from two rooms the following week, and then on July 27, a French guest reported that a €30,000 Rolex Daytona watch had disappeared when he went to the beach.

He told police that he suspected some maintenance people who got access to his room to ‘repair’ the air conditioning.

The final robbery happened on August 13, when a French tourist said that €150 was stolen from his fanny pack.

The Policia Nacional worked out that the robberies were an ‘inside job’ and honed in on the maintenance man who was working on all of the days that the thefts were committed.

He was arrested last Thursday and was found to have drugs on him as well as €120 in cash.
