A MAINS pipe burst in Benalmadena yesterday launched a geyser of water that reached five floors up.

Described by residents as a ‘tsunami’, the burst pipe completely flooded the dining room in nearby Hotel Los Pacos, leading to guests having to be evacuated.

They were allowed to return some 30 minutes later, but water supply problems at the hotel and surrounding housing area persisted for the rest of the day.

The repairs are expected to take two to three days while water company Emabesa has warned of cuts around the town if buildings do not have their own water tanks.
