Spain enters Google race to put robot on the moon

CGI of Lunar prize robot

SPANISH scientists have taken a giant leap towards putting a robot on the moon.

The rover – tasked with driving around and sending live images back to earth – will be launched in 2014 from China after the Barcelona ‘Moon Team’ struck a deal with a Chinese firm.

The project is part of an attempt to claim the €24 million Google Lunar X PRIZE, available to anyone who can transmit the images back from the moon before December 2015.
