HUNDREDS of protesters have flooded the streets of Torrevieja to demand justice for Nala the cat, allegedly beaten to death as an act of revenge against an ex-partner.
The demonstration on Sunday followed the release on bail of a man accused of killing the pet moggy.
Around 400 people attended the protest, organised by PACMA, the CES Torrevieja Project and several animal rights groups.
Crowds packed the pedestrianised Clavel Street from 12pm, chanting ‘Justice for Nala,’ ‘Animals feel,’ and ‘To jail’.
Several demonstrators carried placards displaying the image and name of the accused man.
The Government Sub-delegation authorised protesters to gather outside the building where the suspect reportedly lives.
Around 12 Policia Local and Guardia Civil officers maintained order as emotions ran high.
Torrevieja councillor for Animal Protection, Concha Sala, and PSOE spokesperson Barbara Soler were both in attendance.

Both councillors had publicly encouraged residents to join the protest online.
Concha Sala declined invitations to address the crowd during the event.
The shocking attack took place at the end of April in the San Roque neighbourhood of the town.
Graphic footage of the incident spread across social media and sparked outrage throughout Spain.
The video allegedly shows the suspect repeatedly kicking the cat in the street – even after the animal stopped moving.
Policia Local officers eventually restrained the man at the scene.
Campaigners said the death of Nala has reignited concerns over the link between animal abuse and domestic violence.
Activists also highlighted growing frustration over what they claim are weak punishments for animal cruelty in Spain.
